Description

The ISIF Young Investigator Award is sponsored by the ISIF to grant international recognition for outstanding contributions to the art of information fusion by a young ISIF member.  The goals of the ISIF in granting this award are to encourage individual effort and to foster increased participation by younger researchers and engineers.  This ISIF award consists of a commemorative recognition plaque and travel grant to receive the award.  An eligible candidate must be no more than 35 years of age on the first day of January for the year in which they will be honored, and she/he must also be a member of ISIF with at least three years of ISIF membership. Nominations will be solicited from the ISIF membership and the selection process is managed by the ISIF Awards Committee.  Anyone qualified to appraise the candidate’s contributions to the art of information fusion may formally nominate the candidate. The ISIF Young Investigator Award is presented at the annual FUSION conference.  A full nomination package that includes an exhaustive curriculum vitae and at least three endorsement letters are typically required by 31st day of January in the year of the award.

Prize

The recipient of the ISIF Young Investigator Award will receive a plaque valued of approximately $250, a travel grant of up to $1000 to attend the annual International Conference on Information Fusion, and complementary conference registration.

The ISIF Young Investigator Award is presented at the annual FUSION conference.

Basis for Judging

Candidates will be selected for multiple contributions to the art of information fusion as evidenced to the research community through technical papers, presentations, inventions, products, or service positions held in the field of information fusion. Judgment will be based on the nominator’s write-up, the endorsement letters, and personal knowledge of the experts in the evaluation committee. Voting will be under the leadership of the chair and the outcome will be based on the majority consensus.

Eligibility

An eligible candidate must be no more than 40 years of age on the first day of January for the year in which they will be honored. She/he must also be a member of ISIF for three years. The candidate must have demonstrated outstanding contributions to the art of information fusion through journal articles, magazine articles, patents, engineered products, service, and peer testimonials as documented by the nominator(s).

Nomination Details

Nominations will be solicited from the ISIF membership. Periodic notices will be placed in ISIF Perspectives on Information Fusion magazine soliciting deserving individuals. Nominees must have been a member of ISIF for the past 3 years. Anyone qualified to appraise the candidate’s contribution to the art of information fusion may formally nominate him or her. A one page letter of intent to nominate is required by the first day of December in the year prior to the award. This letter must include sufficient details and/or other evidence describing the candidate’s contribution to the art of information fusion so that the ISIF Award committee can issue an endorsement or rejection of the candidate’s eligibility. The endorsement or rejection of a candidate’s eligibility will be issued to the nominator within 15 days of the submission of the letter of intent to nominate. The candidate should not be involved in this part of the nomination process. A full nomination package that includes an exhaustive curriculum vita is required by 31st day of January in the year of the award. Additionally, at least three, and no more than five, additional letters of endorsement should be forwarded to the award committee to indicate credible recognition by others, such as peers, managers, and customers. This information will be reviewed by the ISIF Awards Committee in order to select a recipient.

Letters stating one’s intention to nominate a candidate for the ISIF Young Investigator Award must be received by the ISIF Awards Committee before the first day of December in the year preceding the award.   ISIF Awards Committee will issue an endorsement or rejection of the candidate within 15 days of receiving the letter of intent to nominate. All supporting letters and other documentation for the nomination must be received by the ISIF Awards committee no later than the 31st day of January in the year of the award.  The winner and successful nominating sponsor will be notified before the 1st day of March in the year of the award.
